Mito Toshogu Shrine

Highlight

In 1621, Tokugawa Yorifusa, the first lord of the Mito Domain, established this sacred shrine to honor the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Before the war, the shrine’s main hall was designated a National Treasure, but it was lost in the fires of the 1945 air raids. In 1962, the current shrine was rebuilt, restoring its sacred presence.
It is close to Mito Station. The shrine’s main gate stands in front of the Miyashita Ginza Shopping Street entrance, where rows of restaurants and cafes line the path.
